Short Mat Bowls Club

smbowls

Okeford Fitzpaine Short Mat Bowls Club began in 1993 when a few villagers met together to experience this comparatively new sport. Since then, the club has thrived with a slow but steady influx of new members.

The club is a non-profit making organisation aimed at promoting the sport of short mat bowling in Okeford Fitzpaine. We meet twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the village hall. Normally we play home matches during the season on a Tuesday evening and have a practice session on a Thursday evening when new members can gain experience.

The club at present enters two teams in the Blackmore Vale League and one team in the Dorset League. This ensures that players of all abilities can play competitively if they wish. Results can be viewed at http://bvl.yolasite.com for the Blackmore Vale League and at http://www.dorsetsmba.supanet.com for the Dorset League.

Prospective members from the village are always welcome to come to meetings and have a go. No experience or equipment is required as newcomers can borrow woods and play in stocking feet if need be. A small charge is made each evening to cover hall hire and running costs. Personal equipment consists of a set of woods and a special pair of flat-soled shoes, both of which will last for many years.
