Okeford Fitzpaine Parish

Okeford United Football Club

football-club

Okeford United Football Club was formed in 1900 by workers from the Phillips Milk Factory that was situated in the centre of Okeford Fitzpaine village.  It is the memory of these founding members that give the clubs nickname of “The Butterboys”.  The club colours are red and green and have been so throughout its history.

The club has been continuously run since its formation, playing in several locations around the village before settling at the Recreation Ground in Castle Lane.  The ground has changed over the years (see the gallery section for photos featuring matches back to 1904), and in 1996 the club and the Parish Council combined to build a major extension to the Pavilion.  The 2011/12 season continues to see improvements to the facilities with the erection of a fixed barrier around the pitch.

The club began life playing in the Shaftesbury and District League up until the 1930’s, before entering the Dorset leagues.  The club has had many successful years throughout it’s history, having won all the county cups on several occasions except the Senior Cup.  Currently, there are two mens senior teams, with the first team playing in the Dorset Senior League, and the reserve team in Dorset Division Three.  The club founded a youth section in 1991, the success of which is shown by the number of players who have progressed through to the two senior teams.

The 2010/11 season saw the first team finish as runners up in the two competitions they entered; finishing second in the Dorset Senior League, and runners up to Poole Town Reserves in the Dorset Senior Trophy.

The club offers a warm welcome to visitors on Saturday afternoons throughout the season, with refreshments, television, undercover areas and hopefully some entertaining football.

2014-15 season – the Club is currently running two senior men’s teams and under 13’s and under 16’s youth teams.
