To celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 1977 a wall was erected replacing the fence separating The Cross from the Old School House. In 1996 it was obvious that the surrounding paved area was becoming increasingly dangerous and needed repair. The area was completely lifted and the original slabs broken up and reset as crazy paving. In the run up to 2000 the Parish Council decided to investigate the installation of a new stone cross as a fitting way to welcome the new century and leave a legacy from this generation. Unfortunately English Heritage would not allow this to happen. The Village Hall Management Committee donated and installed a new seat in 2002 to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee - a welcome resting place to enjoy the view in the heart of the village.

Just opposite the Post Office are the remains of an ancient medieval stone cross probably dating from the 14th century. The only parts that remain are the base a second step and the socket stone.
