Museum

MuseumIn the centre of the village the museum is home to a hand operated fire appliance from 1809 probably last used when the school caught fire in 1942. It was kept at the Farnham Museum for some years and was later returned to Okeford.

Standing next to it is an ancient funeral bier which we understand was once in regular use.
A more recent addition is the now obsolete Government issue hand cranked siren acquired from the Home Office in 1993 having spent many years in the keeping of the postmaster at 'Ye Olde Bell Stores' otherwise known as the Post Office/Shop. It was kept in the village, as were similar ones in other villages, to warn of an impending disaster such as world war three.

The museum is small, it nestles between the School and the Post Office but is well worth a look.
